Challenges

Motivation

Motivation is essential when learning a language. Consequently, diverse educational strategies are implemented to encourage a broad understanding of the importance of, and nature of, language learning; especially when students are required to learn English (Chen et al., 2005).

It is believed that without resolute motivation, even the brightest learners might prove unable to achieve language proficiency (Cheng & Dörnyei, 2007).

Usability

Limitations that may affect usability include, dependency on networks, Internet connection speed, reading on a small screen, lack of homework completion. At the same time, students are treating the devices as toys outside of the classroom and examinations on mobiles, inconvenience in viewing the learning materials, the failure to motivate learners, lack of universal access to modern cell phones, limitations of access in rural and remote areas, technical problems in posting materials to websites using mobile devices (Elaish et al., 2017).

Quality

 

“Some young learners do not have natural inclinations towards technology use, and therefore, they lose interest in using mobile devices quickly if they are not continually given new and innovative devices” (Elaish et al., 2017). 

“Students may get distracted and unable to concentrate when using mobile devices, which can cause disruptions in the learners’ academic and personal lives; the surrounding
